Abstract:
The population of students all over the world is growing without a proportionate increase in teaching/learning resources/infrastructure. There is also much quest for learning in an environment that provides equal opportunities to all learners. The need to provide an equal opportunity learning environment that will hitherto improve the system of education globally has therefore become imperative. Based on our findings, a mathematical model Web-based Virtual Classroom system (WebVCS) was developed to provide a viable medium through which sound education can be offered in tertiary institutions that can carter for varieties of learners irrespective of their abilities, dispositions and geographical locations. Our system model is developed based on active learning approach that adopts blended learning theory (Constructivist-Cognivist learning approach), incorporating e-pedagogy that supports collaboration among participants in the web-based Virtual learning environment. The key objects used in creating the WebVCS model are: Courses, Students, Instructors and Learning performances. Our system model sets a framework for developers of virtual classrooms and successful implementation of the model leads to students learning by interacting with their peers resulting in the construction of knowledge

Abstract:
Literature is replete with studies in
knowledge management, culture and
hospitality. In the case of hospitality, it is
because of its ability go grow income whether
in developed or developing economies.
Developing economies can rely greatly on
such income especially when it comes from
foreign visitors.
Nonetheless, apparently existing
studies in developing economies do not
combine the three areas; thus, the motivation
of this study to examine the effects of culture
on KM adoption in the Nigerian hospitality
industry. Individuality and collectivism as
well as career success and quality of life are
considered as two ends of a continuum by
Hofstede but this study found them, but this
study found them as individual factors that
could contribute to KM adoption.
Hofstede’s culture dimensions was
used along with some variables of technology
acceptance model (TAM) to develop a
theoretical model which was operationalised
into a 45-item questionnaire that was
completed by 195 respondents out of the 400
to whom it was distributed in Nigeria. The
analysis indicated as significant collectivism,
uncertainty avoidance, career success, quality
of life, short- and long-term orientation.
Conversely, power distance and individualism
were not significant. These findings are unique
because apparently no earlier research has
attempted to examine the culture effect on
knowledge management adoption in the
hospitality industry of Nigeria. This article
presents the findings implication and areas for
further research

Abstract:
With increasing use of the internet, there is increasing opportunity for identity fraud, organised crime, money laundering, theft of intellectual property and other types of cybercrime. There has also been an increase in reported biosecurity incidents, border control incidents and terrorism. The events of September 11 2001, the recent one that occurred here in Nigeria on the 24th of December, 2009 and many more occurrences have triggered increased response from governments, intelligence and law enforcement agencies world-wide. The structure of an automated fingerprint authentication system is described in this project work. The system completely eliminates the need for manual perusal of fingerprints to find a possible match.

Investigating The Effects Of Threshold In Credit Card Fraud Detection System

Abstract:
In e-commerce, credit card fraud is an evolving problem. The growing number of credit card transactions provides more opportunity for thieves to steal credit card numbers and subsequently commit fraud. Credit card fraud can be perpetrated through stolen cards, counterfeit card and stolen card details. The defensive measure issuing bank can take to overcome this liability is by introducing fraud detection systems (FDSs) in their database. Although different methods have been implemented to detect fraud but application of probability and selection of threshold value add an extra advantage for FDS to detect anomalies in on-line transactions. Therefore this paper implements another method of selecting threshold values (dynamic/adaptive) based on individual cardholder spending profile. In order to increase the confidence of the threshold values the results are verified using performance metrics. The two methods were compared and the results showed that adaptive method is suitable for detecting fraud in credit card transactions.

A Twin Approach To Internet Service Provision In Sparse Rural Community In Nigeria

Abstract:
Today Internet is the tool that provides the fastest and latest information on what goes on around including
Nigeria. In Nigeria, most of the rural areas are still lagging behind in the area of Internet provision. This work focuses on the
provision of Internet services to a sparse rural community based on the apprehension of the people of the rural settlement in
Nigeria, taking Ake-Ihievbu sparse rural community as a case study. It explores the various methodologies that are used in
providing internet services and fashion out model that will be best suited for sparse rural communities with emphasis on
affordability to the people and profit margin returns to the providers. This model is in two parts; Fixed and cellular wireless.
Fixed wireless involves the use of Very Small Aperture Technology (VSAT), Fixed Wireless and Wireless Local Area
Network (W LAN) technologies, to allow the Internet Service Providers to redistribute the internet service around the
settlement and allowing the indigenes to access it via their personal computers using wireless radio signal. The use of Fixed
Wireless and Local Area Network (LAN) technologies to redistribute it to cyber cafes, for those whose cannot afford to own
a personal computer is also presented. Cellular technologies involve the use of cellular mobile technologies like Global
system for Mobile Communications (GSM) to provide Internet services to the community. Considering the cost of building
base stations for cellular mobiles, the possibility of government and corporate organizations partnering with GSM operators
to reduce the cost, thereby providing affordable Internet access for the rural dwellers is also presented. The provision of
Internet to the rural communities in Nigeria will be greatly overcome, if the models presented here are strictly adhered to
